The Visakhapatnam Urban Development Authority (Vuda) is looking for a consultant to prepare a master plan for the development of Yarada Hill.
The Andhra Pradesh government has alienated around 1,394 acres of land in Yarada, Gollalapalem, Malkapuram and Pedagantyada villages to Vuda in 2008. Vuda seeks to use the space to promote eco-tourism, build star hotels, resorts, golf course, botanical garden, among other such complexes.
Located on the southern side of Visakhapatnam, the Yarada Hill extends from the tip of the Dolphin’s Nose to Gangavaram Port on the southern end, overlooking the sea on one side and Visakhapatnam city and Vizag Port on the other.
The hill presently has a defence establishment like Radar Centre, a housing colony for Navy with shopping complexes, etc. Visakhapatnam Port has also established its lighthouse at the tip of the hill, on its eastern side, popularly known as Dolphin Nose.
From the inception report and surveys to data collection, the consultant will take the responsibility of preparing the layout and business plans, including financial model, environmental impact assessment, open space designing, illumination design, and producing the final layout report. Vuda wants to prepare the master plan with a special emphasis on making maximum spaces available to pedestrians and mixed land use. Roads will be developed on all the three sides, including Gajuwaka, Yarada beach and Malkapuram. Proposals have also been made to promote innovative tourism facilities connecting Yarada beach area with other recreational facilities.
A senior Vuda official revealed that the consultant will draw up the preliminary cost estimate for the development work and expected revenue realisation based on the data and site appraisal. The consultant will also carry out technical and financial feasibility of projects for carrying out mixed-use development, said the official.
