The Vizag city has 20 lakh populations and it has been increasing leaps and bounds in terms of vehicular population and also hosting large number of national and international events. The GVMC (Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation) set up around 500 CCTV cameras under the smart city project by March 2018 and the city police will set up 1,638 CCTV cameras as part of the fiber grid project.
A senior police officer expressed the police will not be having the power to monitor but also avoid unexpected incident or law and order situation. Almost 2,100 CCTV cameras will be useful for close observation few cameras will recognize ANPR (automatic number plate recognition) cameras would support them in keep in check crime like rash driving, vehicle thefts.
