The Essar Vizag Terminal Ltd (EVTL) released to press that their Ore Handling Complex (OHC) was planned to inaugurate by the Union Minister for Road Transport & Highways, Shipping and Water Resources, Nitin Gadkari on Friday. There also expecting the chief minister of Andhra Pradesh N. Chandrababu Naidu for the inauguration. OHC was installed with the capacity of 24 million tonnes per annum costs Rs.830 crore, which will be India’s largest OHC. Among all the Indian ports daily 1,20,000 tonnes of iron ore fastest vessel turnaround time, it is the cargo handling equipment advantage. The cargo loading capacity of the facility has been upgraded to 24 mtpa. In the Vizag port outer harbor, the iron ore handling complex has a berth length of 325 meters, can now berth Super Capesize vessels up to 200,000 dwt, with a depth of 20 meters.
In 2015, the project was the takeover by EVTL from Visakhapatnam port trust for the period of 30 days on the basis of Design-Built-Finance-Operate-Transfer (DBFOT). For the rapidly growing markets of South-East Asia, including China, Japan, and Korea the iron ore is served by iron ore handling complex in all-weather, deep draft. The project is benefits for shorter turnaround times and reduced freight costs will helpful for exporters on the east coast.
Raji Agarwal managing director of Essar port ltd says that the facility will support both export and coastal traffic, furthering the vision of the Sagarmala initiative.
Ch Satyananda CEO of Essar Vizag Terminals Ltd said that this is the unique project for the nation-up- grading a 42-year-old infrastructure unit to the latest state-of-art mechanized & automated technology by successfully completing without any disruption in the day-to-day operations of the iron ore handling complex.
