Alleging that the multiplexes are fleecing customers by charging prices more than the MRP of eatables, the members of Advocates Association for Social Responsibility And Awareness (AASRAA) on Monday demanded that its time the authorities initiated measures for regularisation of the food prices at cinema theatres. Citing the order issued by Krishna District Consumer Forum on August 9 this year, AASRAA founder-chief patron H.S. Ali pointed out that two beverage companies were fined in a dual pricing case and the multiplex managements were directed to return the excess money collected from the customers, with interest.
The forum also had directed the Legal Legal Metrology Department to ensure the implementation of the judgement in two months, Mr. Ali said.
The judgement, he said, had four key directions—allowing customers to bring packaged foods to the multiplexes, provision of drinking water, displaying MRPs of snacks and beverages and displaying the phone numbers of legal metrology officials.
“Though the companies and the multiplex concerned had appealed against the judgement in the State Consumer Forum, no stay on the implementation of the order was granted,” he pointed out. AASRAA District president Pratap B. and secretary M.R.S.N. Reddy were also present.
