After putting the proposal on public domain to elicit suggestions, the City Police have decided to implement one-way traffic rule on Beach Road during the weekends and public holidays. The trial run of the implementation would begin from September 1 (Saturday).
Before taking a call on the proposal mooted to mitigate the traffic and parking issue on the ever bust Beach Road, the City Police had sought suggestions from the citizens a few weeks ago. Police Commissioner Mahesh Chandra Laddha received suggestions and opinions from the citizens on WhatsApp number 9493336633 and city police’s twitter handle @vizagcitypolice and Facebook page.
“We have received 45 suggestions and recommendations on the one-way traffic plan through social media. While 28 citizens welcomed the proposal, 17 others opposed. We have directly interacted with several apartment residents on Beach Road to collect feedback. Of the 332 residents who responded to the proposal, 220 accepted the proposal while 56 opposed and 23 residents stayed neutral,” said ADCP (Traffic) M. Ramesh Kumar.
After analyzing the pros and cons of the proposal, the authorities have decided to go ahead with the trial run plan from September 1, the ACP added.
As per the plan, on every weekend and public holidays, the stretch between NTR Statue Junction to Park Hotel will remain open for vehicular traffic while the movement of vehicles on other side of the road abutting the beach will not be allowed between 4 p.m. to 10 p.m. The road will serve as a parking space for two-wheelers and four-wheelers.
The police claimed that keeping in mind the high volume of traffic and beach visitors during weekends and public holidays, new traffic rule will be introduced on Beach Road. The authorities have appealed to the denizen to cooperate with the traffic police.
