5K run evoked a strong response from the public on Beach Road


The 5K run, organised as part of the sixth round of the Janmabhoomi programme, call up a strong response from the public on the Beach Road on Sunday.

The run, which was flagged off by Visakhapatnam East MLA Velagapudi Ramakrishna Babu and District Collector Pravin Kumar near the Kali temple, concluded at the Palm Beach hotel junction.

The Collector, District Sports Officer June Galliot, GVMC Zonal Commissioner Nallanayya, Arjuna Awardees Tombi Devi and Poonam Chopra joined hundreds of runners, including children, students, artistes and some senior citizens.

The Collector expressed 5K runs were being organised at all municipalities and mandal headquarters apart from the district headquarters as part of the Janmabhoomi Maa Vooru programme. He told the State government has been conducting numbers of programmes in the time of the last four-and-a-half years with the objective of transforming the State as ‘Swacchh Andhra Pradesh’ and ‘Aarogya Andhra Pradesh’. Top priority was being given to encourage yoga and sports, morning walk, ration cards and houses were being sanctioned to all eligible persons to promote family welfare. Collector and the MLA distributed prizes to the winners in different categories.
