Rashtriya Ispat Nigam Limited, the corporate entity of Visakhapatnam Steel Plant may not face any troubles in this summer the reason is reconstruction of Kanithi Balancing Reservoir-1 at a cost of Rs.54 crore to reestablish old capacity of 0.5 TMC have make it easier in avoiding the repetition crisis company had gained knowledge two years ago.
RINL happen to come in to the presence its requirement for the steel plant and township from KBR-1, which gets water from VIWSCO (Yeleru canal under the Visakhapatnam Industrial Water Supply Company).

The RINL requires 45 MGD to assure uninterrupted production and safe operations at 7.3 million tons. It will also lay hold of some more time to produce steel at the rated capacity.
It is look ahead to meet the requirement in future as construction of KBR-2 has already started.
The development and modernization of the steel plant to increase capacity from 6.3 to 7.3 million tons had led to taking up of work on KBR-2 at Kurmannapalem it is near to the highway at a cost of Rs.465 crore.
The storage capacity of KBR-2 will be 0.5 TMC. The reservoir will have 24 meter depth of single compartment with push suddenly on green cover around it.
One of the officials of RINL expressed that L&T had been awarded the total package of civil works, piping, electrical, mechanical, pump house and few other works. He told construction was going on at brisk pace and determined attempt were being made to commission it in the first half of 2018-19.
Under the renovation project, KBR-1 was give new with works sand filters, stone-pitching wind breakers.
A wall was constructing throughout the entire KBR area. It was rebuilt with carpet greenery around the reservoir.
