Russian-made hovercrafts are going to be visible at RK beach in coming summer days. Two hovercrafts already been shipped to Visakhapatnam Port St Petersburg. To launch of the project, Hyderabad based Hoverdock, which is the authorative for the hover craft project, has commenced the training to divers, pilots, sailors and other employee.
This is a first of its kind in the country. Andhra Pradesh Tourism department in association with Hoverdock, are going to execute the project. The company has hired Raju Adnani he is from Rajasthan and experienced around 17 years in driving hovercrafts in Ukraine, he said that the condition of the sea is rough at Visakhapatnam. Hovercrafts can withstand in un even sea condition also.
Raju expressed we are training to two locals pilots to steer a hovercraft. The two people are experienced seamen and have sailed all types of boats.
D Chaitanya Varma Hoverdock managing director expressed once the project becomes operational, we will extend it to Goa as well. We are going to open it to people at March end or in the first week of April.
Varma expressed that he obtain all the four new crafts from St Petersburg at the cost of Rs.4 crore. Additionally GVMC (Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation) has allocated a 3,700 sq yard site to build a facility for the vehicles near Hotel Sea Pearl on RK Beach Road. 15 lakh rupees they are paying rent per annum.
The project was planned and a memorandum of understand was signed between Hoverdock representatives and the tourism department at the CII Summit in 2016. One seven-seater, one nine- seater hovercraft, Two five-seater hovercrafts will be operated. A five-seater hovercraft costs Rs.50 lakh while a nine-seater costs over 1 crore.
The charges will be between Rs.300 – Rs.500 per head for a 10-15 minute ride out in the sea Varma expressed.
