In many places of city the Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) has started civil works. Moreover, the contractors who are perform the works neglected in taking proper safety measures.

In some places the boards are showing wrong direction and the motorists are also suffered from these wrong direction boards. Several construction sites are completely open to traffic. There are possible There threats to public safety in rush.

Road construction sites often permit to pass traffic. But there are no boards indicating ‘Work under Progress’ in these areas including Maddilapalem, MVP Colony, Akkayyapa-lem and Dondaparthy allowing the daily travelers to travel at their own risk.

A danger board, with brighten lights, would prevent many accidents. The site at Shivajipalem where under drainage canal digging, must be fenced with barricades. The workers are pouring soil and mud rubbish on the road. Sometimes, people may without knowing enter these roads leading to mishaps.

On Saturday cannel digging works was started but the contractor has not guide about the work handling rush and soil heaps are lined up on the road. There was traffic jam on Sunday night as construction material was spread on the road. Traffic problem increased from Monday,” K. Ram Prasad, a business man from Pedda Waltair, expressed.

Number of accident deaths in the city happened due to lack road safety measures. Few days back, a man had met with an accident at Maddilapalem junction and he was admitted to King George Hospital where his hand was amputated. Repeatedly happened like this accidents happen with pending works that do not taken road safety measures.

Higher Authorities concerned should frequently monitor the civil works and take action on the contractors who do not follow public safety measures," a GVMC official told.
