Visakhapatnam : As many as 6,476 cases of crime were reported during 2017 as against 6,670 cases last year.
Informing this at the annual media conference here on Wednesday, Deputy Commissioner of Police T Ravikumar Murthy said, of these 3,156 were law and order cases, 39 murder cases, 997 cases of crime against women, 117 crimes against children, and 705 white collar offences.
There were also five cases of dacoity, 38 robberies, 372 house burglaries, 117 snatching, 522 motorcycle thefts and 1707 cases of property-related offences, he revealed. Properties lost during the year was worth Rs 6.97 crore while Rs 2.74 crore of it has been recovered.
Overall, the law and order situation was under control with advance information of intelligence, prevention, quick response, augmentation of forces in strategic locations, effective beat system, special drives, visible policing, utilisation of advanced technology, close coordination among the different wings of police and effective control by the hierarchy, he said.
