Visakhapatnam : Given the high demand being witnessed for Araku tourism, the special passenger introduced for one week from November 28 to December 4 would be extended another week bringing cheers to the tourists.
The rail-cum-road special package introduced by Andhra Pradesh Tourism Development Corporation Limited in association with Waltair Division of East Coast Railway has been evoking good response from the public. With the calling off the train commuting to Araku due to damage of Kottavalasa-Kirandul line in October this year, the move came as a dampener to tourists during the peak season and bringing down the footfalls drastically.
Meanwhile, again to generate the influx of tourists, APTDC and East Coast Railways have gone extra mile with the partial restoration of 58501/58502 Visakhapatnam-Chimidipalle-Visakhapatnam passenger.
“Catering to the needs of tourists, the special train service with one Vistadome coach, two general class coaches and one second-class-cum-luggage van will be extended for another week.
From the day when the service was re-launched, the occupancy ratio for Vistadome has been high. Even the general class coaches, too, are being filled,” said the official sources with railway adding that by the end of December second week, the K-K line would be completely repaired.
Speaking to, DVM T Prasad Reddy said 40 per cent booking for Vistadome coach has already done for next few days. “Even the tickets for general class coaches are being reserved. Through receiving more queries, we are of the view that more tourists have been planning to Araku tour after December 15th,” he said.
In the previous route, the Araku-bound train used to pass through 58 tunnels giving a breath-taking view of the valley. However, in the present tour, the tourists are being ferried in Vistadome coach could have a glance of 40 tunnels while they cross them, according to APTDC officials.
In present tour package, the tourists will be taken till Tyda in passenger, later the bus services will be arranged from there to Borra Caves, Araku and other scenic locations. After the visit to Araku and Borra Caves, they will be dropped at Visakhapatnam in the same bus. The one-day tour, costing Rs 3,200 per person, will begin at Visakhapatnam Junction at 7 am and return would be by 8.30 pm the same evening.
