Visakhapatnam : An Assistant Excise Superintendent, Ravindra Prasad in the district is allegedly involved in ganja trade. This shocking episode came to light during interrogation of a ganja trader by Chodavaram police in the district.
Last May, a van coming from Devarapalli was stopped by police near Chodavaram for inspection. Police found ganja in the vehicle and arrested the van driver Ramakrishna and cleaner Sai. However, the key man Venkataramana alias Chandra managed to escape.
Police managed to nab Chandra on October 30 and in his statement, Chandra alleged that he began his career as a lorry cleaner and then learnt driving to become a cab driver in 2012. One Rajasekhar, a notorious ganja trader, used to engage his cab to go to Paderu from Visakhaatnam city and pay him more than normal fare.
Rajasekhar lured him into the transporting ganja and he began earning Rs. two lakh for each trip for supplying ganja to one Sameer in Solapur.
Later Chandra began trade on his own and purchased a van in 2015 and earned a lot of money. He was once caught and had to spend six months in prison. He was again caught by the Excise police near Chodavaram a couple of years ago. AES Ravindra Prasad then struck a deal with Chandra for regular payment, it is alleged. After Chandra was arrested, Ravindra Prasad reportedly went on sick leave from November 1, it is said.
