Google today has a new doodle on its homepage. Today’s doodle neither celebrates the birth anniversary nor marks the death anniversary of a person. In fact, it celebrates the person itself. Celebrating special moments from the past and the present, the tech giant has today dedicated a video doodle on its homepage. This time, it’s to honor Selena Quintanill.

Google choose to keep the doodle very simple with a picture of Selena Quintanill and its logo on top. The doodle rightly presents the fact as to why she was so celebrated. On clicking the doodle, users will be shown a video that demonstrates Quintanill’s life beautifully.

The video starts with her aspiring to be a singer, and how her life flows from holding a comb as a mike to actually singing songs with fans cheering in the crowd. The song, Bidi Bidi Bom Bom, received widespread acclaim for its musically diverse sounds, and the effects it had on its listeners.

The song also peaked at number one on the United States Billboard Hot Latin Songs chart, and remained there for four consecutive weeks. She was called the Queen of Tejano for her contributions to the world of music. Fashion is said to be another thing that made her one of the most celebrated Mexican-American entertainers.

She also ranks among the most influential Latin artists of all-time, and is credited for catapulting a music genre into the mainstream market.

Her popularity grew after she won the Tejano Music Award for Female Vocalist of the Year in 1987, which she won nine consecutive times. Selena signed with EMI Latin in 1989, and released her self-titled debut album the same year, while her brother became her principal music producer and songwriter.

Apart from music and fashion, Selena was active in her community and donated her time to civic causes as well. Coca-Cola appointed her its spokesperson in Texas. However, on March 31, 1995, Selena was killed after the president of her fan club and manager of her boutiques, Yolanda Saldívar, shot her in a hotel room.
