APS RTC has launched India’s first ‘open-loop interoperable contact-less solution’ in public transport, on city buses in Visahapatnam.
The NFC (near field communication) card was formally launched by Minister for Information Technology Nara Lokesh on the sidelines of the Blockchain Conference in the city.
The NFC card has been launched on the Kurmannapalem-Tagarapuvalasa-Vizianagaram route on a pilot basis on 18 buses on route no.111 and 111 V buses, plying on the National Highway, RTC Executive Director (Vizianagaram Zone) A. Ramakrishna said on Tuesday.
The NFC cards were introduced in tune with Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu’s vision of promoting a digital economy in the State. The advantage of these cards is that passengers need not worry about small change or carrying cash.
The card, which is similar to a debit or credit card, has an additional feature of NFC, which enables payment without the need for entering the PIN or the card having to be inserted into the POS (Point Of Sale) machine.
