Minister inaugurates four-day ‘National Arogya Fair-2017’ in Vizag

Minister of State (Independent charge) for AYUSH Shripad Yesso Naik has said that two world-class AYUSH (Ayurveda, Yoga and Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha and Homoeopathy) Hospitals, one each in Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh, will be set up to promote the use of the Indian systems of medicine.

The Minister inaugurated the four-day ‘National Arogya Fair-2017’, being organised by the PHD Chamber, at the Andhra University Engineering College (AUCE) Grounds here on Friday. He said that AIIMS-like Institute for Indian systems of medicine would be opened in Delhi in the next couple of months.

The Minister said as India was in the process of transforming from a developing to a developed nation, health challenges were cropping up in the form of huge growth in non-communicable Diseases (NCDs) like diabetes. While modern medicine was useful in managing the disease in acute conditions and emergencies, there were limitations in the long run due to resistance being developed to drugs and their side effects.

The AYUSH systems by virtue of their holistic approach and cost-effectiveness have an edge in dealing with health problems. Mr. Naik said that AYUSH was flourishing within the country and across the globe due to the tailor-made policies of the government. AYUSH systems were very useful in the treatment of NCDs, chronic ailments like joint pains, migraine and psoriasis.

Visakhapatnam MP Kambhampati Haribabu said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had showed to the world about the benefits of Yoga.

He spoke on the efforts of the government in bringing down the prices of medicines. Principal Secretary to the AP Government (Health and Family Welfare) Poonam Malakondaiah was optimistic that the four-day fair would create awareness among the general public about the benefits of the Indian systems of medicine.

Principal Director, PHD Chamber, Vivek Seigell said that while homoeopathy was registering an annual growth of 20 to 25% in the global market, it was growing at a much higher rate in India.

Zilla Parishad Chairperson Lalam Bhavani, Visakhapatnam North MLA P. Vishnu Kumar Raju, Commissioner AYUSH Sujata Sharma, District Collector Pravin Kumar, Advisor (Unani), Ministry of AYUSH Rais Ur Rahman and Deputy Secretary in charge of Arogya Fairs Ramanand Meena were among those who attended.

During his welcome address earlier, senior vice-president of PHD Chamber Anil Khaitan underlined the measures to be taken to strengthen the Indian systems of medicine.
